Glen Eden is a membership club. |

|
Glen Eden is a non-profit 501(c)(7) membership club founded in 1963 by Ray and Mildred Connett. Originally from Canada, Ray and Mildred were a married couple very active in the naturist movement in their native country. Soon after they migrated to the United States, they opened the doors of Glen Eden. The Connetts passed away in 1997, but their dream lives on in the smiles of those who benefit from it today.
Another early pioneer who was active in establishing Glen Eden was Cliff Kennedy. Cliff found the land, thought of the name “Glen Eden,” and did most of the planning which is still followed today. But the list of individuals who contributed their hard work and financial support to make Glen Eden a success is virtually endless.
From the moment you arrive, Glen Eden begins working its magic, creating an exhilarating freedom while nurturing positive feelings of self worth. The relaxation that you will certainly experience at Glen Eden is the consequence of accepting yourself and feeling accepted by others. By shedding your clothing, you will also shed the burden of images and find yourself relating to others more for who they are than for who their clothes say they are. Doctor or truck driver, it might be said that nudism is the great equalizer.

It is challenging to paint a complete picture of everything Glen Eden is. To the countless visitors who enjoy this 155-acre paradise at various times throughout the year, it is a phenomenal retreat from the rigors of everyday life, as well as an instant healer of stress and worry.
To those who know Glen Eden more intimately, namely its residents and 1,600 members, it is more than a retreat. Perhaps the best way to illustrate the deeper meaning behind Glen Eden is to share two different quotes from the founder himself, Ray Connett.
“Here, in brief, is the story of a club that would not exist without the work and donations of time and money from countless MEMBERS, yes and visitors too. This is not the story of a one-man show. It is the story of a member’s club which we hope will someday stand as an example of generosity and selfless enthusiasm after other clubs have disappeared into the maw of realty expansion and the greedy grasp for quick profit.”
“That spirit can work wonders, even at the club level, if you give it a chance. It has made Glen Eden. That spirit of member co-operation and effort and enthusiasm is the secret of our success. And I think you only have to look at the record of clubs and associations which permit no

member control to see what the end result of that can be! Don’t get me wrong! Some of the finest clubs in America are privately owned. One man, or man-and-wife, put their money and their ingenuity into a piece of property and make a show place . . . if they have enough money of their own . . . or are lucky in their choice of sites. But even they can benefit by the help and thinking of their members, and the most successful of them do, you can read it in their bulletins. The list of names who did this or that, donated needed items, far and beyond what the owners could accomplish by themselves.”
That spirit of voluntarism, cooperation, enthusiasm, and just pure, plain old love for this special place called Glen Eden still continues today. There is a paid staff which includes a General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Bookkeeper, and Maintenance, Customer Service, Housekeeping and Café staff. However, the Officers and Board of Directors remain volunteer positions. Many decisions are voted on by the Corporation at large, members who pay a one-time fee so they can play a greater role in the decision making process. Volunteers assist in many major club functions.
Glen Eden is a shining example of what great things can happen with a little teamwork and cooperation. It is also one of the greatest escapes in the world.
